Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has expressed confidence at clinching the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.
According to Babu, he has whatever it takes to unseat Governor Johnson Sakaja for the much coveted City Hall seat in the next polls, should the incumbent county boss choose to take another stab at the position.
The outspoken legislator – albeit lightly – went ahead to state that Governor Sakaja is merely warming the seat for him, ahead of his ascension during the next election cycle.
“Look at the National Assembly now, look at Governors, look at Senators, look at Woman Reps and MCAs….is there anybody better than Babu Owino there? I’m not bragging, just tell me,” Babu said in a YouTube podcast show dubbed ‘Convo Unscripted.’
Asked by the podcast hosts whether he has any real chance of taking over the Nairobi Governor’s seat in 2027, he said: “Definitely. That I can tell you, 101%. He (Sakaja) is a placeholder…Sakaja has been put there to clean the way for me.”
“Let me ask you, if you’re a voter of Nairobi; you go to the ballot, what are the parameters to judge that I want to vote for Babu Owino or Sakaja? You’ll either say (you want) a leader who works, of course Babu works way better.”
He added: “Secondly you’ll want to say the intelligence quotient, of which Babu is at optimum. Number three utasema streetsmart (which I am)…so ni nini yenye itafanya msipigie Babu?”
The lawmaker, in the podcast, also spoke about his upbringing in the slums of Nyalenda, Kisumu County, where he witnessed his mother being whipped by police officers for selling chang’aa in order to send him to school.
