A video that surfaced online shot by one of those at the government-mandated quarantine facilities has revealed the deplorable conditions at the center.

The mandatory quarantine, as well as the preselected facilities, followed an order by Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe that all those coming into the country beginning Sunday, March 22 would have to be quarantined for the prescribed 14 days.

It was one of these quarantined individuals who shared the video showcasing the bad conditions at one of the government facilities.

The people were sharing rooms with each person allocated one of the bunker beds.

Each person was similarly given a mattress, beddings and a bucket to be utilized during the period of the stay.

The video showed the dirty facilities that those quarantined have to endure, particularly the deplorable conditions in the bathrooms which are visibly filthy.

Those in the facility also have to stomach the bedbugs that were seen on the government allocated blankets.

The complaints about the facilities have been numerous with a report by Citizen Digital on Monday, March 23 detailing the frustration of returnees at the government facilities.

This was the case the Kenya School of Government which received nearly 400 individuals who opted for it owing to its affordability.

One of those who would be staying there for the two-week duration revealed that they were required to share rooms in groups of at least seven people.

Those who were quarantined there had initially been asked to pay Ksh4,000 a day before uproar pushed the government to cut this by half to the more manageable, yet still expensive, Ksh2,000 a day.

There were a few others who opted for the earmarked hotels at the cost of 12,000 a day, figure out of reach for most.

The Government shared a list of the official quarantine facilities in the country on Tuesday, March 24.

While most were hotels, those looking for more affordable options would have to make do with rooms at the Kenya Medical Training College, Kenyatta University, the University of Nairobi, Cooperative University as well as the Kenya School of Government.
