Police Nab Donkey Carcasses Meant For Sale In Nairobi, 3 Suspects Escape

Police in Kiambu County have seized over seven freshly slaughtered donkey carcasses suspected to have been prepared for sale in Nairobi and its suburbs.

The carcasses were found at Kiahiti village in Gatune sub-location following a night raid by officers based at Nachu Police Station.

According to a statement issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Tuesday, detectives acting on a tip-off raided the premises where the freshly-slaughtered donkeys lay, even though the three suspects allegedly linked to the operation had already fled.

“Earlier, the officers based at Nachu police post had gathered intelligence on the impending slaughter and arrived at the scene on time as the unscrupulous meat vendors slaughtered the beasts of burden, whose meat finds its way to butcheries and meat joints in the city disguised as beef,” DCI stated.

The DCI says that investigations would later reveal that traders extract boneless meat from the carcasses which are sold in city markets as beef fillets, and other boneless chops while the intestines and other internal organs are sold to roadside vendors.

“No flesh is left to waste as the traders also package the donkey intestines, kidneys and other internal organs which are sold to outlets dealing in popular roadside delicacy, mutura, supu and matumbo,” read the statement.

A manhunt for the three suspects who escaped from the scene is currently underway.
