A pastor died on Wednesday night, September 30, after a tent allegedly tumbled down on him during a night vigil in Ongoche village in Nyatike.

According to a story by Citizen Digital, the pastor, Peter Ochieng, succumbed to injuries at the Migori level four hospital, where he was rushed after the incident took place.

A village elder indicated that the mourners were taking cover in the tent, to avoid a heavy downpour, when strong winds brought it down and buried the pastor.

Other mourners are also reported to have sustained injuries from the incident.

Ochieng’s body was taken to the Migori Level Four Hospital Mortuary.

Nyatike sub-county Police Commander Stella Too indicated that the incident had not been reported but vowed to investigate on the matter.

She warned residents against conducting events at night oblivious of the 11pm to 4 am curfew that had been set by the government to curb the spread of covid-19.

“It is said that people are sneaking out and conducting events in the night that have been banned by the government,” she stated.

The incident came days after President Uhuru Kenyatta reduced curfew hours from 9 pm to 4 am to 11 pm to 4 am as well as re-opened bars.

Unfortunately, a number of Kenyans have lost their lives since the directive with the fatal incidences taking place in bars.

In his speed, the head of state urged Kenyans to follow the directives in a bid to completely flatten the covid-19 curve.

“If we do what is necessary during the next phase of the war against this pandemic, it will lead us to do what is possible.  Then cumulatively, our necessary actions (like wearing a mask) coupled with our possible deeds, will lead us to the impossible outcome of containing this pandemic.

“Indeed, as a people, we must always remember that ‘…impossible is nothing’ if we apply ourselves,” the president stated.
