One person died after protests rocked Nyandarua County on Saturday morning after the winner of the Women Rep nomination contest Faith Gitau was denied the Jubilee certificate.

Reports reaching Newsday Kenya say the protester was shot dead at Fly Over.

Protests turned ugly in other parts of the county. In Magumu area, an unknown number of people suffered gunshot wounds.

In Ol Kalou town, the county headquarters, protesters held demonstrations that were concluded at the county headquarter’s Jubilee offices.

Ms. Gitau had scooped the Women Representative contest after trouncing the incumbent Wanjiku Muhia.

However, Ms. Wanjiku, who is claimed to have connections in the high ranking offices at the Jubilee party and government, has been protesting Ms. Gitau’s win.

This is the second incident in the county that has seen losers in the Jubilee primaries get nomination certificates. In Kaimbaga Ward, a losing candidate, Gathure Gabriel was declared as winner by Jubilee instead of the winning candidate Mwangi Nyaga. This was despite the former accepting defeat and filing no complaint.
