An autopsy conducted by pathologists Peter Ndegwa at Umash Funeral Home revealed that the cause of her death was severe pneumonia.

At approximately 2:30 PM, Helen Silau Njaga, aged 58 and the eldest sister of the deceased, reported to authorities the tragic discovery of her sister, Ntanina Yiapan.
According to the report filed, Helen Silau Njaga received a phone call earlier in the day at around 10:45 AM from Robert Nagila, a colleague of the deceased.
Nagila informed her that Ntanina Yiapan, a 46-year-old Maasai female and esteemed journalist at Nation Media Group, was found unconscious in her bedroom at Brooklyne Apartments, House No. B6, located along Laikipia Road in Kileleshwa.
Upon arriving at the scene, Helen Silau Njaga immediately sought the assistance of emergency medical services.
Tragically, paramedics confirmed that Ntanina Yiapan had passed away before their arrival.
At the time of her passing, Ntanina Yiapan resided in the apartment with her 8-year-old daughter, Mia Malaika, and a house help named Nelius Mwihaki Macharia, aged 36.
