Njenga Karume’s grandson arrested trafficking cocaine, bhang

Njenga Karume's grandson has was arrested for trafficking high grade marijuana and cocaine.

The late cabinet minister Njenga Karume’s grandson has been arrested for trafficking cocaine and marijuana in Nairobi.

James Njenga Kihato was arrested together with Lawrence Muketo Ngula and Joseph Mutua Kimeu in his house in Lavington.

The officers who had been on his trail found several pounds of imported high-grade marijuana and sachets of cocaine at the house. Police have in the past linked Njenga to drug-related crimes in the city.

Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) head Hamisi Massa said the three would be charged in court on July 21.

The suspects, said to be also operating a narcotics distribution network in Nairobi and Kampala, were arrested in an operation led by ANU detectives.

Police said earlier reports indicated Mr Kihato had been importing narcotics such as Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) into the country.

The arrest comes barely months after another one of Karume’s grandsons was booked in Kiambu for allegedly killing his girlfriend at Gracia apartments, owned by the former minister.

Kennedy Karume, a trained pilot, was arrested after his fiancée Mumbi Kulungia fell to her death from the fourth floor of the house in Kiambu town.
