Bernice Saroni admitted that she exploited US citizenship law to ensure all her four children became American citizens.

The mother of four, who recently came back to the country, opened up about relocating to the US and acquiring US citizenship for her boys while speaking during an interview with Obinna.

Saroni revealed that she moved to the US when she was 12 years old to be with her father who had acquired American citizenship.

“I went to the States when I was 12 when my mom passed away. My dad was living in the States, he was a citizen. He filed for me so I went to the States with a green card,” Saroni said.

Bernice Saroni further disclosed that all of her four boys were born in the US.

“My kids were born there, they are citizens by birth,” she said.

The mother of four disclosed that she lived in Kenya when she got married to her now ex-husband and that all of her children were conceived in the country but were born in the US.

Saroni divulged that whenever she got pregnant, she would travel to the US when she was in her eighth month of pregnancy, give birth in the US and come back to Kenya when the baby was two months old.

When I got married we lived here coz he had a good job so he said he cannot relocate to the US so I am the one who had to relocate here. So nikipata ball naenda nazaa US. So when I was eight months naenda US, give birth then I come back with the baby akiwa two months,” Bernice Saroni said.

So wote ulifanya hivyo, four of them? (You did that for all the four of them?) Obinna asked in shock.

“Yes,” Bernice Saroni said.

Nani alikua anlipa ndege? (Who was paying for the flights?) Obinna asked.

Si my ex-husband. Business class kwanza (My ex-husband, he paid business class),” she replied.

Bernice Saroni made sure her children were born in the US so that they could become US citizens.

According to US laws, babies born in America automatically become citizens even if none of their parents are American citizens themselves.

Amendment XIV, Section 1, Clause 1 of the U.S. Constitution directs that all persons born in the United States are U.S. citizens. A person born in the United States who is subject to the jurisdiction of the United States is a U.S. citizen at birth, to include a child born to a member of an Indian, Eskimo, Aleutian, or other aboriginal tribe. Challenges in US

Bernice Saroni further disclosed that she moved to the US with her children after her marriage hit rock bottom because of her ex-husband’s infidelity.

“They [children] went to school here (Kenya) until 2018, that’s when things went zigzag (in the marriage) then I relocated to the US – 2018 November,” she said.

I left my kids here for like six months coz I wanted when they come they are comfortable,” she added.

Saroni admitted that her children were culture-shocked when they joined her in the US as she could not give them the lavish lifestyle that they were used to in Kenya.

So walipokuja I had a two-bedroom apartment. When they came they were very shocked coz Kemya wametoka five bedroom house kila mtu alikua na room yake. So when they came they were like ‘ehh mom this house is the size of your bedroom [in Kenya]’. I remember that’s what my firstborn told me,” Bernice Saroni said.

So that transition was not easy for my kids, actually they didn’t like America. Wakaniambia ‘mommy we want to go back to Kenya’. They had a culture shock it wasn’t easy. Now they love it. After two years things worked out good I bought a house so kila mtu akakua na bedroom yake,” she added.

Jobs in US

Bernice Saroni also talked about the type of job she does in the US, dismissing claims that she works as a trailer driver.

Sasa wewe unaendesha trailer (Do you drive a trailer),” Obinna asked Bernice Saroni.

“I am a business lady, I am a promoter and I am a nurse,” she replied.

Bernice Saroni is a cousin to Mugithi singer Samidoh. She hosted the singer’s wife Edday Nderitu when she first relocated to the US before moving into her own house.

Edday and her three children left for the US in early May 2023 and were picked up by Bernice Saroni upon touching down in Boston, Massachusetts.
