Mwalala joins KCB after quitting Ulinzi Stars

Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side KCB FC have confirmed the appointment of Bernard Mwalala as their new coach.

The former Kenya international and Yanga SC star has been appointed ahead of the 2023–24 season and takes the mantle from Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno, whose contract elapsed.

“Very pleased to announce that we have officially secured the services of super coach Bernard Mwalala as the club’s new head coach. Welcome to the Lion’s Den,” KCB announced on Friday.

After failing to make remarkable achievements under Zico, the ambitious Nairobi-based side has now placed their hopes on Mwalala.

Although Mwalala has yet to win the Premier League title in his previous workstations, his ability to mould young players into competent stars is one of the traits that make him attractive. He is also one of the young coaches who have been in the game for some time now.

He honed his Premier League coaching skills at Nzoia Sugar before he moved to Bandari. KCB have managed to pick him up from their rivals, Ulinzi Stars.

Although his future had attracted speculation, Ulinzi Stars were adamant that they were not going to part ways with the former Harambee Stars forward.

However, with the new move now official, the Soldiers went on to appoint Vincent Moriero Odhiambo as the interim coach as they continue their search for a new head coach.

Anthony ‘Modo’ Kimani, a former Bandari and AFC Leopards head coach, and Francis Kimanzi, a Premier League winner and former Harambee Stars and Mathare United tactician, as well as Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee, a former Tusker, and Kenya coach, are the high profile coaches available who are not currently attached to any side.

With Mwalala now in charge, it remains to be seen whether the Bankers can now break the Premier League title jinx. They have made several attempts to win the league, but their efforts have come up short.
