More misery for Kenyan football as another NSL-based club disbanded

National Super League (NSL) side Fortune Sacco announced the disbandment of the team.

According to verified reports, the club was disbanded after sponsors allied to the club felt worried after failure by Kenya’s football governing body to include the club into the top flight league.

Fortune sacco had filed a case to the Sports Dispute Tribunal challenging Football Kenya Federation’s decision to nullify last season’s league.

Through the club’s CEO Timothy Muthike, they had instructed their lawyers to challenge the decision as they had “not contravened any set rules by the Caretaker Committee that was overseeing the leagues.

Muthike adds that the bad blood between FKF and the government was not supposed to affect teams playing in different leagues, hence their latest move.

Rather than wait for the matter to be resolved in court, the sponsors decided to pull the plug on the team and end careers of promising players and the loser is local football as about Sh12million that had been dedicated to the team pulled out.

Fortune Sacco are among the teams that were affected when the federation nullified last season’s leagues. Also affected were Administration Police Bomet.

The matter is currently in court waiting a decision.
