Mombasa Tycoon mourned by his two wives as each wife publishes own obituary on Daily Nation

The passing of Mombasa-based engineer Kata Matemu has become the center of attention due to an unusual circumstance: his two wives, Prisca Mukethe and Agnes Murorunkwere, published conflicting obituaries in the Daily Nation to mourn his death.

Kata Matemu, also known as the brother of the late Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) chairperson Mumo Matemu, succumbed to an undisclosed illness on April 18.

The divergence between the obituaries is stark, not only in the tone but also in the portrayal of the deceased. One obituary depicts him with a lighter complexion, while the other shows him with a darker complexion.

Left behind are children and grandchildren from both marriages, a testament to Matemu’s complex familial ties.

This situation raises questions about how families navigate relationships in modern society, particularly in polygamous settings where dynamics can be intricate.

While disputes within families during times of grief are not uncommon, the public display of disagreement through conflicting obituaries adds a unique twist to Matemu’s story.
