Matiang’i speaks on teachers’ July pay raise

Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has said that teachers in the country will get their pay raise this coming July.

Speaking during the launch of the Association of Alumni Communities of Kenya at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, Matiang’i said that the Teachers Service Commission would go ahead and honour the pay agreement signed between the government and the teachers.

“There is no issue. Responsible discussions are going on,” Dr Matiang’i added. “We want to have responsible engagement with unions and other stakeholders and avoid a situation where everyone believes he or she is right and other opinions are irrelevant.”

TSC, the Kenya National Union of Teachers and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers have been in talks on the implementation schedule of the collective bargaining agreement expected to run from July to June 30, 2021.
