Marakwet Daughter in Trouble as Another Group Battles Over Ownership of ‘Mali Safi Chito

Musician Millicent Jerotich, popularly known as ‘Marakwet Daughter,’ has claimed that there is a group attempting to take ownership of her hit song ‘Mali Safi Chito.’

The musician said that the group has been muting the audio of her song on videos posted by people using it on the TikTok platform.

The Marakwet Daughter stated that the group has already begun claiming ownership of the song.

“Besides claiming ownership of the song, the group has been muting the sound of my songs used by my fans to entertain themselves on TikTok. That is my hard work. I will do everything possible to ensure that no one takes a shortcut to snatch the copyright of the song,” Marakwet Daughter said.

She expressed anger over the issue.

The musician alleged that the group has been uploading the song to various YouTube accounts without her permission.

“I am ready to take any action to defend my songs,” she said.

The musician’s statement comes a few days after she warned disc jockeys (DJs) who have been uploading the song to their YouTube accounts without her consent.

“DJs play a crucial role in promoting a musician and their songs. However, that does not mean they should upload the song to their YouTube accounts to make money from my songs,” she said.

The musician gained popularity last year through the song, which received a lot of praise from Kenyans on social media.

So far, the song has over eight million views on YouTube.

Before the song became popular, the musician said it took her nearly 20 years to be recognized.

“I have been in the music industry for almost 20 years. Before the song became popular, not many knew me. I had been through a lot of struggles,” she said.
