A man has been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of Chandarana Supermarket manager, Hassan Abdullatif Salim.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Joseph Mungai Wanjira who is accused of the murder was arrested on Wednesday in Naivasha.
According to a police report, Hassan who worked as a manager at the supermarket’s Buffalo Mall branch was killed on May 22, 2024.
He was discovered dead after failing to show up for work prompting his colleagues to look for him at his house where he is believed to have been living alone.
However, when the store’s supervisors located his house, they were shocked when they noticed blood drops on the doorway prompting them to alert the police.
Police from Naivasha arrived at the scene and after forcing entry into the house, they found Hassan’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood on the floor.
The police noticed signs of struggle in the house and a few household items were missing indicating a robbery gone wrong.
After studying the CCTV footage, DCI detectives launched a manhunt for the suspect eventually leading to his arrest on Wednesday.
“Today, intelligence analysis gave away the prime suspect, in whose possession were found most of the items stolen from the deceased’s house including a TV set, a 6kg Pro Gas, a Samsung tablet, a hoodie branded NASA and a blood-stained bag
“After a brief interrogation, the suspect led detectives to the scene of crime (deceased’s house), retrieving the two murder weapons he had used (kitchen knife and a piece of wood),” DCI wrote in a statement on X.
Following the arrest, further documentation of the scene were conducted and the suspect booked in Naivasha police cells pending arraignment for Robbery with Violence.

Not so long ago, three men were arraigned at the Bondo Law Courts on a count of robbery with violence and released on a Ksh 300,000 bond.
According to court documents, among the three was a police officer who is attached to Siaya Governor James Orengo’s office as a driver.
The pair were arrested after they allegedly beat up and robbed a human rights activist in the Olago area in Sakwa within the county.
According to a police report, the suspects roughed up the activist and assaulted him before taking away Ksh 20,000 which he had carried in cash.
The judge heading the trial instructed the accused to refrain from contacting the witnesses or the victim, after releasing them on bond.
