‘Mama Pima’ Kuria Promises Kenyans Cooking Oil Dispensers

Trade Cabinet Secretary on Friday, July 14 announced plans to install cooking oil dispensers across the country.

Speaking during a meeting at State House between President William Ruto and Indonesian investors, the CS detailed that the move would target Kenyans who buy cooking oil in small quantities.

He noted that the current packages of cooking oil were expensive with many Kenyans unable to afford them.

In making the project resonate more with Kenyans, Kuria indicated that the dispensed oil would be called mama pima.

“We are in the process of shipping the dispensers which will be named mama pima and will be rolled out all over the country even within our informal settlements.

“This will be the end of the cartels within that this sector,” he stated.

However, the CS did not detail the price range at which the oil will be sold at. Timelines for the project implementation were also not revealed.

In other countries where cooking oil dispensers have been installed, the oil is sold depending on someone’s finances with the least price being Ksh10.

The dispensers also operate similarly to the water and milk ATM machines.

On his part, President William Ruto also announced plans to engage with Indonesian investors to improve palm oil farming in Kenya.

He also called on the investors to use Kenya as a gateway to the other parts of Africa.

“Through the port of Mombasa, you can access Ethiopia, South Sudan, Uganda and Burundi. You have a market of 500 million people which can be reached through the port of Mombasa.

“We are keen on improving the port of Momabsa so as to promote investment in this area,” he stated.
