Ledama ‘Bad Blood’ With ODM Continues As He Shows No Signs To Relent

It seems the bad blood that had started cropping inside the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party after Narok Senator Ledama Olekina got a powerful position in the Senate has been put to rest.

According to a message he shared on his social accounts, the senator called a truce in the war with Siaya Senator James Orengo over the election that saw Ledama named the chairperson of the County Public Accounts and Investments Committee.

Ledama disclosed that he held wide consultation with Orengo and resorted to work in harmony to avoid any division that would weaken the ODM Party.

He further revealed his undying respect for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, besides previously accusing him of being behind a plot to oust him from the seat.

“I have had wide consultation on the issue of my elections as chair of Senate’s CPAIC with James Orengo and the ODM Party and I want to make the following issues clear!

“My support for Raila Odinga and State House is solid and unshaken they have my unequivocal support,” stated the senator.

In an earlier outburst, Ledama had dared the ODM Party to target him claiming that he would not budge to their demands.

“Raila Odinga is on the record stating that his election has been stolen and I supported him. I was nearly killed in the last resist movement!

“Now, what exactly does this letter mean James Orengo? are they trying to steal my chair position? No way! I am the wrong number to mess with!” he stated.

It is, however, not clear what the terms of the agreement between the two parties were, including whether the party would finally endorse him for the seat or he had agreed to give it up.

Speaking, ODM Communications Director Phili Etale declined to comment on the meeting disclosing that he did not attend and that he was not qualified to comment on the meeting.

Ledama was in the race for the seat against Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri.

“Sessional Committee of Public Accounts and Investments has been reconstituted with four new members. They are Hargura GodanaIrungu Kang’ataOchillo Ayacko, and Johnes Mwaruma. The committee will be chaired by Ledama Olekina,” reads the statement from the Senate in part.

Kiambu Senator Paul Wamatangi was appointed to deputize the Olekina, a role previously held by Meru Senator Mithika Linturi.
