Young talents who are staring at the horizon, hopeful for a better tomorrow, and seeking opportunities to prove themselves need to be ready when that silver lining finally bulges in.
This is according to actress Catherine Kamau -Karanja alias Kate who in a message via her Instagram account detailed three must-know pointers that she said are crucial in navigating the industry especially on matters money.
According to Kate, fame is fleeting and if one strikes gold and fails to plan or choose not to live within their means and, worse still, fail to sieve the crowd around them, they are surely on a path to self-ruin.
Kate stated that in the journey of life, foresight is important as challenges often occur that require suavity to wiggle out of. A highlight she noted she wished someone had warned her of earlier on in her career
“Dear young talent, I know you are trying hard to create a brand but here are a few things I wish someone told me too,” read Kate’s post.
“Stop using your little savings or profits to please friends or your followers. You work so hard, grow your money, invest, save for a rainy day. When you run out of money to buy the champagnes and the mzingas they will run too.”
She went to emphasize the need for contentment and pointed out why financial discipline is important in an industry like hers that often epitomizes opulence and wealth – real or imagined.
“Live within your means. I earn enough to live in the boojiest neighborhoods but hey priorities, I even have comments thrown my way but I don’t listen I know what I am working for I stay focused, please live comfortably, grow slowly sweetheart,” added Kate.
For Kate, friends make or break careers, “Choose your circle of friends wisely: May God grant you wisdom here, this is a struggle, and if you are a genuine soul you think everybody is the same! Sweetheart, people are cruel, pray, good friends give you peace, encourage you, cheer you, and protect your dignity.”
The actress famed for her career-defining role as Selina in Mother-In-Law went on to plead with the fast-rising acts to learn from their peers and appreciate lessons from past mistakes.
“I really wish you the best. You don’t have to make the same mistakes we did! We are here for you. We did better, you can too. With love,” she wrote.
