How this KK employee disappeared with Sh. 25 million JKIA

Police are looking for a man working with KK Security who disappeared with Sh25 million at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi last week.

Mr Handson Nyasaka of the KK cash transfer unit collected the money from Nyali which was to be taken to Nairobi and boarded a Kenya Airways flight KQ540.

After alighting at the JKIA at around 9.30am he disappeared and switched off his phones.

Nyasaka had apparently told his colleagues he would land at JKIA at 9.30 am while in reality he was landing at 7.30 am. Further, he told the employees who were to pick him with armed police officers that he would land Terminal 1 but he in reality was landing at Terminal 2, police said.

The cash, according to the JKIA’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) station was in foreign currencies of USD 50,000, 98,500 Euros and 90,000 Swiss Franc.

The CEO of KK Group of Companies James Omwando said that investigations were at an advanced stage but the suspect had not been arrested.

In March 2014, another KK Security staff, Mr Julius Rotich, disappeared with Sh21.6 million which he was taking to the company’s headquarters in Nairobi.

Mr Rotich, who was travelling alone after being entrusted with the money which was in US currency, left Moi International Airport aboard a Kenya Airways plane but was never seen after arriving at the JKIA.

He had been escorted to the airport by armed police officers who did not accompany him on the flight.

After alighting, he never got in touch with his colleagues who were waiting for him at the airport.
