Kenyan Tycoon to Build Multi-Billion City in Congo

Kenyan billionaire Julius Mwale has secured a deal to build a multi-billion medical technology city in Congo-Brazzaville.

The tycoon behind the Mwale Medical and Technology City (MMTC) in Kakamega County recently accompanied President William Ruto during his trip to the central African country.

Mwale expects the new city to boost access to affordable healthcare and medical tourism in the country. MMTC plans to expand the concept to 12 other countries by 2050, according to Mwale.

“Mwale Medical And Technology City (MMTC’s) team was in Congo to cement partnerships for the construction of a new Medical City in Brazzaville in the republic of Congo,” MMTC announced in a statement.

Mwale is among Kenyan billionaires who enjoy close relations with Ruto, having been part of his team during presidential campaigns.

He has reportedly accompanied the President to other foreign trips including the United States and the United Kingdom.

“Mwale Medical And Technology City (MMTC’s) team was in Congo to cement partnerships for the construction of a new Medical City in Brazzaville in the Republic of Congo,” the statement read.

Botswana Deal

The Brazzaville partnership comes just two months after the billionaire inked a similar deal with President Mokgweetsi Eric Masisi to expand Hamptons Hospital to Botswana.

The tycoon secured the deal when he visited the southern African country to attend Forbes Under 30 Summit, an event that ran between April 23 and April 26, 2023.

“Julius Mwale was feted at the event as one of the keynote speakers, and as a successful global African leader having transformed a village into a sustainable metropolis,” MMTC revealed.

“Our team has been welcomed to Botswana by President Eric Masisi to expand Hamptons Hospital in the country using our Mwale Medical Technology City (MMTC) model.”

The agreement was reached after Botswana’s Vice President Slumber Tsogwane visited Mwale’s city in Kakamega at the beginning of June 2023.
