Cliffton Miheso, a Kenyan professional footballer who currently plays for Police FC, has sued his former team, Gor Mahia, for unpaid salary arrears and part of his signing-on fee.

Miheso joined Gor Mahia in 2019 from Police FC, featuring in the National Super League, and left the team when his contract expired in August 2021.

Miheso has presented his case before the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) and is demanding around Kshs 800,000 from the 19-time Kenyan champions.

According to media reports, the left-footed Harambee Stars international also wants part of half the salary Gor Mahia paid players during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic to be updated.

Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier, in an interview with Mozzart sports defended the club’s actions, stating that they paid half salary during the pandemic period after their sponsor halved their sponsorship package.

However, Miheso’s legal team argues that the club has not fully paid the player’s signing-on fee, which is a breach of the contract agreement.

The lawsuit comes at a difficult time for Gor Mahia, who are already struggling financially and are serving a FIFA transfer ban due to contractual disputes with several former players.

Gor Mahia is reportedly working hard to lift the transfer ban ahead of the February/March transfer window and has lined up several new players for signing, including Sylvester Owino and Patrick Kaddu.
