The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Kenya has announced the closure of Terminal 2 on Friday, February 24, 2023, and Sunday, February 26, 2023, due to the arrival of US First Lady Jill Biden.

In a statement, Kenya Airport Authority announced that terminal will be closed during specific hours to facilitate a VVIP movement, and stakeholders have been advised to relocate their operations to Terminal 1 during the stipulated period.

“JKIA will be facilitating a VVIP movement in the course of this month,” reads the letter dated February 20, 2023.

Jill Biden’s visit to Kenya is her first since her husband, Joe Biden, became the US President.

During her visit, she is expected to meet and engage with those affected by drought and facing food insecurity, which has been exacerbated by the ripple effects of Russia’s assault on Ukraine.

“Then in Kenya, I will hear from those affected by the ongoing historic drought and food insecurity, which has been exacerbated by the ripple effects of Russia’s assault on Ukraine,” she said.

The visit underscores the US government’s commitment to promoting global stability and supporting humanitarian efforts in the region.
