Late Kibra MP Ken Okoth’s body has been cremated at Kariokor crematorium in Nairobi.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna who also doubles up as Okoth’s family lawyer confirmed that the body was cremated on Saturday morning, in the presence of his family.

Hon. Okoth’s remains have been cremated this morning in accordance with his wishes and in the presence of his family. May his soul Rest In Peace,” read a tweet from ODM.

Court order

The cremation comes a few days after the High Court stopped the process.

The court halted the cremation or burial pending the hearing and determination of case filed by a woman who claims to have a child with the Kibra MP.

The complainant, Anne Muthoni Thumbi moved to court on Thursday to request for an injunction stopping funeral plans, until she was recognized as the Late lawmaker’s bonafide partner, before they held talks with Okoth’s family and agreed to have the cremation on condition that the son, be part of the burial process.

Homa Bay

Family Lawyer Edwin Sifuna announced that the Kibra MP’s body would not be flown to Kasipul Kabondo in Homa Bay County for the funeral service that was earlier planned.

Mr Sifuna told reporters that logistics of flying the body to Gor Rateng’ Secondary School had failed to work out making it impossible to execute.

The MP died on Friday last week, at the Nairobi Hospital after a brave battle with colorectal cancer.
