National Volleyball Champions KCB have booked a place in the final of the Kenya Volleyball Federation league playoffs after hammering detectives DCI 3-0 in a semi-final clash at the Kasarani Indoor Gymnasium.

The bankers, who had to dig deep in the first leg of the semis yesterday saw off their opponents by straight sets (25-20, 25-19, and 25-9) to set their sights on reclaiming the national women’s title.

Commenting after the win, KCB head coach Japheth Munala noted that: “We had to work hard yesterday to beat DCI who gave us a run for our money. Today, we won easily having worked on our services, our reception, and blocks. The final will be tough but we are ready to take on either Kenya Prisons or Pipeline.”

KCB’s attacking prowess was bolstered by the return of opposite attacker Sharon Chepchumba from injury. Chumba missed the quarterfinal encounter against Kenya Army. Once again, she proved her class with her deadly spikes helping KCB to a comfortable win.

Munala also lauded Juliana Namutira, youngster Deborah Jesang, setter Esther Mutinda, and middle blockers Belinda Barasa and Edith Wisa who brought their A-game to the table when the team needed it the most.

“It is a proud moment for me as a captain to lead my team to the finals of the Kenya Volleyball Federation league – a grueling competition that is exhausting and demanding. I appreciate all my teammates for their contributions both on and off the court. We now have a daunting task to prepare for the final and win it,” reckoned captain Edith Wisa.

On their way to the finals, KCB beat Kenya Army 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-18) in the first quarter final showdown before running them rugged 3-1 (25-17, 25-16, 20-25, 25-20) in the return leg of the best-of-three series.

Munala’s charges quenched their thirst for the local league title last year after a 15-year wait when they defeated arch-rivals Kenya Pipeline 3-1 in a highly contested final.
