KANU to field presidential candidate

KANU has announced that it will be fielding a presidential candidate in the upcoming general elections.

The announcement is contained in a newspaper advertisement that appeared in local dailies on Monday.

The announcement made the party’s elections board puts to rest speculation that the founding party will be supporting the NASA presidential candidate.

“We invite eligible Kenyans to present their expression of interests in confidence to the national election board,” Eddie Kivuvani said in a paid advertisement on Monday.

Earlier on, KANU had remained tight lipped on who it would support in the upcoming general elections.

According to sources, there has not been a very rosy relationship between KANU’s Gideon Moi and Deputy President William Ruto. This has made it harder for the ex-president’s son to work with Jubilee, especially with public lecturing from Mr. Ruto.

However, Gideon is said to still have a good personal relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to a 2013 memorandum of understanding signed between the ruling party and KANU, Jubilee was to stay away from Moi’s Baringo County while KANU kept away from the presidential contest. However, it was agreed that KANU would field its own candidates in all other elective posts across the country. This MoU now seems to have put asunder.
