Kakamega Homeboyz bow to Uganda’s KCCA in a friendly match

Kakamega Homeboyz suffered a 2-0 in the hands of Ugandan side KCCA in an international friendly match staged at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Friday.

The match was aimed at assessing the readiness of the Mozzart Bet Cup champions ahead of the CAF Confederation Cup debut.

To the hosts, the duel provided an avenue to unveil the playing unit and launch new kit ahead of the 2023-2024 season.

KCCA got their goals through Arafat Usama who broke the deadlock in the 29th minute before Julius Poloto netted the second and final one in the 67th minute.

Prior to kick off Homeboyz coach Patrick Odhiambo, stuck with nearly all the players who did duty in the Cup final against Tusker.

The only change was the introduction of Brian Wekesa who started in place of first choice right back Collins Odhiambo.

Homeboyz are set to host Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi in the first leg of the Confederation Cup preliminary round in Nairobi later in the month before travelling for the return game.

Abana Abeingo won the rights to represent the country in the continental event after beating Tusker 1-0 in the Cup final held on July 1 at Kasarani Stadium.

With the first leg of the preliminary as well as the league kick off fast approaching, Homeboyz, elected to test their preparedness for the massive tasks ahead of them.

The team is likely to play Tanzania’s Azam in yet another test match before the start of the continental journey.

Azam, will host the 2019 cup winners Bandari on Saturday at their backyard.

Homeboyz will be Kenya’s sole representative in the CAF inter-club tournaments as Gor Mahia were locked out of the Champions League after their club license certificate was revoked.

Gor lost their slot after failing to clear with former foreign players on time.
