Kabras RFC see off Kenya Harlequins to win Prinsloo 7s title

Kabras RFC are the winners of the 2023 Prinsloo 7s that was held at the Nakuru Athletic Club.

The Sugarmen defeated Kenya Harlequins 10-5 to win the coveted title.

It was Bryceson Adaka who opened the scores after dancing through the Quins defense, going over the whitewash for a five-pointer. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful.

In the closing half, Jone Kubu scored a try to see the scores rise to 10-5. Kenya Harlequins managed an unconverted try through scrum half Lucky Dewald.

This is the second time the sugarmen are winning the coveted title, having done so in the Driftwood 7s played at the Mombasa Sports Club on July 8 and 9.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Kabras RFC head coach Felix Ayange acknowledged that the three-week break worked wonders for them.

The break has mended and broken teams. What teams did during the break is reflecting on the pitch today,” Ayange offered.

Kubu, who opened the scoresheets, noted that their hard work finally paid off.

“We are very happy, very excited. We have worked very hard for this and it has paid. We still have mistakes to rectify and come back stronger for Christies 7s next weekend,” he said.

Quins who are under Paul Murunga will be proud of the performance they put in Nakuru which is an improvement compared to the sixth-place finish they achieved in Driftwood sevens.

In the ladies’ category, Mwamba RFC defeated Impala RFC 10-5 to win the women’s title.

Sigalagala RFC won the Division II category after a 10-5 win over Makueni RFC. The side is coached by Allan Kasiti.
