Johnnie Walker successfully returned its signature AfroExchange experience to Kisumu on June 13 at Berlin Lounge 042, bringing together music lovers, creatives, and culture enthusiasts for a vibrant celebration of African music, art, culture, and nightlife. Building on the success of its debut in the city last November, the second edition delivered an immersive experience that reaffirmed Johnnie Walker’s commitment to championing African creativity and creating platforms that inspire cultural exchange and creative expression.
Guests were treated to an electrifying lineup of performances led by DJs Detrix and Most Wanted, who kept the energy high throughout the evening with carefully curated sets blending contemporary African sounds with crowd favourites. Their performances immersed attendees in diverse genres with strong cultural influences. This energy was amplified by headline artist Okello Max, whose music is deeply rooted in and inspired by Dholuo culture. His dramatic stage entrance brought the venue to a standstill before he delivered a memorable live performance, captivating the audience as they sang along to some of his most popular singles, including Taya, Diana, and Nakufa, further cementing the event’s celebration of African musical talent.
Speaking during the event, Duncan Mokaya, Shopper Manager at Johnnie Walker, said:
“Johnnie Walker has always stood for progress and the people who keep moving culture forward. AfroExchange reflects our commitment to championing African creativity by creating spaces where music, art, and culture intersect. Through this platform, we celebrate the creators, innovators, and cultural tastemakers who are shaping modern Africa while inspiring consumers to take bold steps in pursuit of their passions.”
Towards the end of his performance, headline artist Okello Max was presented with his portrait, hand-drawn by an emerging painter from the region. Beyond the music, guests immersed themselves in an interactive creative playground featuring local art installations, visual showcases, and experiential spaces that celebrated Kenya’s rich artistic heritage.

Guests also enjoyed a selection of curated cocktails crafted to complement the experience and elevate the evening’s premium atmosphere. From immersive art experiences and cultural showcases to live performances and social rituals, AfroExchange delivered a multi-sensory journey designed for culturally curious consumers who value creativity, self-expression, and authentic connection.
At the heart of AfroExchange is the belief that music, art, and fashion are among Africa’s most powerful cultural connectors. Inspired by the role of creatives as cultural storytellers and curators of shared experiences, the platform celebrates the sounds, stories, and influences that travel across African cities, connecting people through a shared rhythm while showcasing the unique identity of each destination.
With its signature spirit that “beats drop, cities hop, and creativity pops,” AfroExchange’s successful return to Kisumu highlighted the city’s growing influence as a hub for entertainment, nightlife, and contemporary African culture. Bringing together music, art, and immersive experiences, the platform celebrated African creativity while fostering cultural exchange and meaningful connections among consumers.
“We are delighted to have returned to Kisumu and to continue building experiences that bring people together through creativity and shared cultural expression,” Duncan added.
Through AfroExchange, Johnnie Walker continues to champion African culture and support the continent’s creative economy, creating spaces that inspire progress, encourage self-expression, and connect communities through the unifying power of music, art, and shared cultural experiences.
