During the Azimio demonstrations that occurred in Embakasi on Thursday, a group of rogue police officers shot and killed a young man.

His sister took to social media to express her deep grief and regret for sending him to buy meat in Kiamaiko, as he was tragically killed on the spot due to the police using live bullets to disperse the protesters.

The chaotic nature of the demonstrations made it a risky decision to send him out, and the sister now deeply mourns the loss of her brother.

Thursday’s opposition protests in Nairobi resulted in chaos, looting, and property destruction, leading to many businesses being paralyzed.

In the Eastlands area of Nairobi, the protests turned violent, with rowdy youths overpowering the police and blocking the major Outering Road, which connects the central business district to the outskirts.

The police initially fired tear gas to stop the Azimio convoy from joining the main thoroughfare connecting Mombasa Road and Thika Road.

Raila, the leader of the opposition, had planned to use this route to engage with residents of Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums in his rallying call against the President William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza administration.

However, the police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd, forcing the convoy to make a U-turn.

The opposition leaders’ vehicles had to use the right side of the highway to head towards the Airport North Road but encountered a traffic snarl. After the blockade, the leaders detoured and headed to the Southern Bypass before retreating to Karen.

Raila, who had returned to Karen, condemned the police attack, calling it unjustifiable. A part of the crowd that was with the Azimio leader stayed behind and engaged in a fierce battle with the police, lighting bonfires, and chanting anti-Ruto slogans.

The group blocked the highway at Fedha footbridge, making it impossible for vehicular traffic heading in either direction to pass through.
