I Was By Mzees Side At The Time Of Demise, Senator Gideon Moi

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi on Tuesday morning, February 4, broke his silence after his father, the second President of Kenya, Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, died.

Speaking to the press outside Lee Funeral Home, where Moi’s body is being preserved, Gideon disclosed that his father passed away by his side at 5:20 a.m.

“He passed away peacefully and I was by his side,” Gideon told the press is a short statement.

Gideon expressed his gratitude to all Kenyans for supporting the family during the trying time.

“I take this opportunity to give my heartfelt gratitude to all Kenyans and non-Kenyans for the prayers and thoughts you have given to our family and Mzee, thank you,” he stated.

Earlier, President Uhuru Kenyatta issued a presidential proclamation announcing the death of Kenya’s second president.

“It is with profound sadness and sorrow that I announce the passing of a great African statesman, H.E. Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, the second president of the Republic of Kenya.

“His Excellency the former president passed on at the Nairobi Hospital on the early morning of this 4th February 2020; in the presence of his family,” an excerpt of the statement read.

The president further announced that the nation would observe a period of national mourning from Tuesday, February 4, until the day of Moi’s funeral.

Also, the deceased would be accorded a state funeral, with all appropriate civilian and full military honors being rendered and observed.

In addition, he stated that the flag of the Republic of Kenya shall be flown at half-mast from dawn on 4th February 2020 until sunset on the day of the Burial.
