How Thugs Broke Into Police Armoury And Stole Arms

An unidentified group of thugs broke into the Kibos Police Post, in Kisumu County on Saturday night, March 28, and made away with G3, L1A1 rifles and an MP5 submachine gun.

Kisumu County Police Commander (CPC) disclosed that 155 rounds of ammunition were also stolen in the 11 p.m. heist, adding that the padlock used to secure the armoury was not found at the scene of the crime, reported K24 Digital.

“Police Constable Ochieng Odenyo who was the report office personnel said that he had briefly gone to his house and when he came back he found the armoury having been broken into by unknown persons and al the three rifles that were there stolen. Sgt David Makali [in charge] rushed to the scene and found the steel door to the armoury wide open and all the three rifles, a G3, an L1A1 and an MP5, 2G3 magazines, 2 MP5 magazines, 135 rounds of 7.62mm and 20 rounds of 9mm calibre missing,” said the police report.

The policeman on duty at the precinct had left briefly to his house, leaving his post unattended, and on returning found that the armoury had been burglarized.

Heavy rains hindered efforts to apprehend the suspects who are said to have escaped through the nearby sugar plantation.

The suspects are still at large the CPC went on announce.

Bizzare incidents of police stations being robbed in Kenya are not uncommon.

On April 16, 2019, police in Nandi South found firearms and 60 round of ammunition missing after the all went into a nearby trading centre four kilometres away, leaving the police station unmanned.

The unknown gang broke into the Kamworon Administration Police Post in Aldai, Nandi County at around 9:30 p.m. where they found no cop in sight, with reports claiming that they had all gone to watch a UEFA Champions League quarterfinal match between Barcelona and Manchester United.

The officers came back at around midnight after the game had ended only to find the armoury broke into and robbed.

The firearms were recovered two months later in June 2019, when the suspects were finally arrested and forced to surrender the stolen arms.
