This was my dad and I on a vacation in Spain when I was around 8 years old.

When I was younger I only really ever saw him in the evenings. He was the main person in the house who worked, but he never missed a school performance, doctor’s appointment, school review; he was always somehow around for the important things!

My parents thought they couldn’t have children so for that reason they fostered children. The started fostering when my father was around 45 years old. They have fostered over 100 children and even adopted one!

The boy they adopted has severe autism and my dad is now 77 and he is still my brother’s main caregiver.

I now have 3 siblings.

This is us all at Christmas time 2018 ft. the butter ?

Over the years he has taught me so much. He taught me how to play football, he taught me how to drive, he accepted me wholly when I came out as gay (he took it amazingly well for being a guy of an older generation), he has taught me things only the older generation would know. He has been there for me at 2 am when I needed picking up from the floor when I was super drunk at age 17 and he has been there to wipe my tears when girls have broken my heart.

He has supported me in every crazy thing I have done. I myself had ASD and he has always supported me. I currently reside in the USA and even from 3,500 miles away he still makes me laugh and supports me.

He has been thought a lot these past few years, a stroke, a quadruple heart bypass, phenomena, CPD, but he is still striving!

He may be an older dad, and his health may be deteriorating, but he will never stop trying for me, he will never put himself before his family (sometimes this is annoying because I JUST WANT HIM TO BE HEALTHY).

I love you Dad!

EDIT: wow!! 1.2k upvotes! That’s amazing thank you so much! We are indeed a Manchester City family!

There are 24 years between my mum and dad.
