The death of a Form One student from Chemase Secondary School in Nandi County, Kenya has sparked investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Kelvin Kiptanui died on Friday evening at Nandi Hills sub-county hospital, where he had been taken after complaining of chest pains.

The school principal reported that two teachers beat Kelvin for allegedly cheating during mid-term exams. According to reports, Kelvin was found cheating with another student during a physics exam.

The police report indicated that the school had not received any sickness reports from Kelvin, only to learn of his complications later. The school has since been closed indefinitely, as students are demanding answers regarding the death of their classmate.

Tinderet OCPD, Mohammed Jire, has confirmed the incident and stated that the police have started investigating the circumstances surrounding Kelvin’s death. Jire has also assured the family and the public that the investigation will be thorough and that justice will be served.

A post-mortem will be conducted on Kelvin’s body to determine the cause of death, and if it is found that the teachers’ beating led to Kelvin’s death, they will be prosecuted for murder.
