Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat secures friendly match against high-ranked Iran

Kenya’s national football team, Harambee Stars, is set to face off against Iran in a friendly match on March 27, according to sources who spoke to Mozzart sports.

This comes after reports of the cancellation of Harambee Stars’ friendly matches against Burundi. While the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) absolved itself from blame in the aborted friendly matches between Harambee Stars and the Swallows of Burundi, the team is now looking forward to its upcoming match against Iran.

Harambee Stars have been inactive for over a year following FIFA’s suspension due to government interference in football management.

The team’s coach, Engin Firat, has been scouting for players from the top-flight league to enter camp on March 17 in preparation for the upcoming friendly match.

Iran, ranked 24th globally, played in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, where they faced off against England, Wales, and USA. They recorded a famous 2-0 victory against Wales, but it was not enough to get them out of the group stages after losing 6-2 to England and 1-0 to USA. The team finished third under Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz.

The decision to play Iran in Tehran was facilitated by Harambee Stars’ head coach, who helped secure the game. “Everything is done and dusted,” a source told Mozzart Sport. “It is just a matter of final details to be completed before being made official and confirmation given.”
