Groovy Jo: Why women are set to Rock the Music Industry!

Few names in the world of music evoke the same reverence and awe as Groovy Jo, a Kenyan hip hop artist who has taken over the industry by storm through her infectious confidence, and lyrical prowess – encouraging women to be their unapologetic selves.

The talented rapper uses her bold and edgy lyrics to freely express herself as an unapologetic Black woman, inspiring others to embrace their authenticity. Her vibrant energy and confidence create a lively atmosphere, particularly during her highly acclaimed live performances.

Known for her clever wordplay, Groovy Jo addresses stereotypes that limit female rappers, advocating for women to assert their power and influence. Her music is a celebration of resilience, individuality, and the fearless pursuit of one’s passions.

Groovy Jo was on the Homeboyz Jumpman Freshman List and nominated for Best Female Artist in the 2021, 2020, and 2019 Unkut Awards. She has made the list of honorable mentions of 2021’s Best Rappers from Kenya as listed by Kulture Vulturez.

In her newly released EP dubbed ‘A Groovy Affair’ on September 20, she dropped bars aimed at uplifting women especially female artists  in the industry speaking of her journey of ups and downs in cleverly curated content that will make audiences begging for more.

Speaking about her new ep, she said: “ I am overly excited about this EP. This is my triumphant return to hip hop, my last tape was more in touch with my emotional and personal life where I gave my fans RnB, pop and afro beats. With A Groovy Affair we go back  to the hard-hitting raps with songs like I’m back, Majirani and to my friends. I also give a summer anthem with the track neck chain that is produced by the grammy award winning producer DOspeaks. So, the fans can expect fun and expressive new tunes.”

With dope artists currently shining a light on Kenya’s plethora of talent, Groovy Jo joins the likes of Ssaru, Dyana Cods and many others in demonstrating how women are headlining the music scene.

“What a time to be alive because the female artists in the industry are dominating hip hop right now from notable acts like me, Ssaru and Dyana Cods. I feel like we are truly blessed, and we can only go up from here,” she added.

The lyrical queen is poised to hit the airwaves with her inaugural album which is still on the works and is expected to drop in 2025. For now, her focus is primarily on collaborating with more Kenyan artists such as Ssaru, Xenia and Mau.
