Govt. cedes key levies in deal with millers to lower unga prices

    Kenyans will begin buying a 2kg packet of unga at Ksh 100 from the previous Ksh 205 under a food subsidy programme announced Wednesday by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

    In a deal with millers, the government will however forego billions in taxes collected as Railway Development Levy and Import Declaration Fee charged on all imported maize as they remain suspended with immediate effect until further notice.
