The ticketing information for the highly anticipated match between arch-rivals Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, dubbed the Mashemeji Derby, has been released.
The match will take place on Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.
VIP tickets for the derby have been set at Sh500, while regular tickets will cost Sh200. The club is expected to provide more information on the venues where the tickets will be sold.
The Mashemeji Derby is a high-stakes game, which presents the victor with the bragging rights. The first-leg tie played in January at the same venue ended in a barren draw.
Gor Mahia, currently sitting at the top of the FKF Premier League table, is two points ahead of Tusker FC.
A result other than a win could see the Brewers, who play Kariobangi Sharks a day earlier, leapfrog them ahead of Sunday’s clash.
On the other hand, AFC Leopards, who have shifted their focus to the Mozzart Bet Cup tournament, have not defeated Gor Mahia in all competitions for the last seven years, a fate that Coach Patrick Aussems is hoping to bring to an end.
Aussems says he will rotate the squad to ensure he has a fully fit team when they face Western rivals Kakamega Homeboyz later this month in the Mozzart Bet semifinal.
Gor’s talisman Johnathan Mckinstry hopes to get maximum points, but he knows it will be a difficult task.
“The boys are eager and we are going in there wanting to get the three points, but we will have to work for them,” he said.
This will be the 96th head-to-head tie in the history of Mashemeji Derby since the first time the two sides locked horns on May 5, 1968. Gor Mahia holds the bragging rights, having won 33 of the encounters, while AFC Leopards have secured 28 victories. The rivals have tied in 33 meetings.
