Gor Mahia’s 2-0 victory over Muhoroni Youth came with an incentive as they received a Ksh1 million token from former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Benson Omala’s 16th minute strike and Christopher Ochieng’s 90th minute goal handed Gor Mahia the win which saw Johnathan McKinstry’s men return to winning ways after two straight draws.

The match played at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay was witnessed by the Azimio leader who joined other dignitaries, including area governor Gladys Wanga, and he seems to have been impressed by what he saw.

Odinga gifted Gor Mahia Ksh1 million for their win while Muhoroni did not go home empty handed as they were the recipients of Ksh500,000 from the ODM party leader.

“At the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay, Gor Mahia and Muhoroni Youth showcased an exceptional game of football this afternoon,” Raila posted on X.

“Congratulations to Gor Mahia for a remarkable 2-0 victory, and kudos to Muhoroni Youth for demonstrating a commendable standard of football.”

It was the first time Gor Mahia were playing a league match at the stadium having opened the venue with a friendly match in the offseason.

Odinga, who is the Gor Mahia patron, has previously rewarded the club for their exemplary performances as witnessed in June when he handed them Ksh1.5 million for winning a record-extending 20th FKF Premier League title.

Gor Mahia needed the win after their recent struggles in front of goal, having scored just once in four matches prior to Sunday’s encounter.

The victory moved K’Ogalo to 24 points, one behind leaders Posta Rangers, while KCB are third on 23.
