With the availability of Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums uncertain ahead of the 2023-24 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) starting this month, Gor Mahia is open to shifting their home games to Kisumu, Machakos or even Narok.
“If FKF (Football Kenya Federation) tell us during application for the Club Licencing that Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums are unavailable then we’ll have no choice but to look for an alternative,” Gor Mahia Secretary General Sam Ocholla told Mozzart Sport.
The two largest sporting facilities in the country are presently under renovation as Kenya seeks to get them ready to stage the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) should the East Africa Pamoja Bid gets the nod of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
“FKF has been cooperative and I’m sure there will be a solution,” Ocholla added.
The defending champions mostly used Kasarani and sometimes Nyayo stadium as their home ground for the previous season.
Sports Kenya, the body mandated to care for national sporting facilities in the country has assured that Kasarani specifically will be ready to host Kakamega Homeboyz FC versus Al Hilal Benghazi of Libya in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary match set for the 18th of August.
Ocholla revealed that Gor Mahia will soon unveil new jerseys for next season.
“We have ordered new jerseys from Spain and I’m hopeful they’ll soon arrive,” he said.
The club has been using Umbro branded kits during the previous season, but are set to go back to Macron.
“We didn’t like them (Umbro) so we will go back to Macron,” Ocholla revealed.
Probed when new players will be unveiled, Ocholla revealed that that will depend on FIFA lifting a transfer ban on the club.
“Probably next week the unveiling will take place, but that will depend on FIFA lifting transfer ban on the club.”
