From Thrills to Upsets: who will come out on top in the FKF cup round of 16?

The MozzartBet Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup has completed its first round, and the line-up for the round of 16 is now complete, featuring two derbies and a clash of Premier League sides.

The wheat has started separating from the chaff, with Kenya Police set to face Ulinzi Stars in the “Uniformed Forces Derby.” The two teams earned their tickets to the next round following victories over the weekend, with Police winning 4-1 over Scarlet FC and Ulinzi beating Kajiado FC 2-0.

Bandari and Mwatate United will also face off in a Coastal Derby, with the dockers having defeated Administration Police 2-0 on Sunday and Mwatate United requiring a 4-2 win on penalties to edge out Coastal Heroes.

Defending champions Gor Mahia, who beat third-tier side Kibera Soccer 1-0, will take on Kakamega Homeboyz, while Tusker FC, who thrashed Berlin FC 7-0, will play Division One side Rainbow FC.

KCB, 1-0 winners over the Michael Olunga Foundation (MOFA), will play Bidco United in another all-Premier League clash, while Sofapaka will take on Darajani Gogo. Kariobangi Sharks, 6-0 winners over Marula FC, will play Equity Bank FC, semi-finalists from the 2019 season.

AFC Leopards, who edged out Zetech University, will take on second-tier side Murang’a Seal in the other semi-final duel.

The second round matches will be played after the international break. The FKF Cup is an annual football competition in Kenya, with the winner earning a chance to represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The competition features teams from all tiers of Kenyan football, including the Premier League, the National Super League, and the lower-tier leagues. The FKF Cup provides an excellent opportunity for lower-tier clubs to showcase their talent and compete against top-flight teams, and the competition has produced some remarkable upsets over the years.
