A fresh plan to hire doctors on a three year contract has been hatched. The plan is being pushed by the Council of Governors.

According to the Governors, hiring doctors on contract basis as opposed to permanent terms will level the playing ground on how they interact.

According to the Council of Governors health committee chairman Jack Ranguma, once the striking doctors get back to work, they will have to apply for their positions afresh to be absorbed.

“We have learnt our lessons and we are going to engage the doctors per counties. Each county as an employing agency will engage their doctors,” Mr. Ranguma told a local daily.

Kenyan doctors are currently on a strike that has left public hospitals paralyzed for close to sixty days now. Last week, they issued a new set of conditions they want the government to meet before they can return to the negotiating table.

The doctors issued the new conditions shortly after a Nairobi-based Labour court gave them a five day extension to resolve the on-going strike.
