Former Kenyan Footballer Working as a Security Guard in the US Allegedly Dies by Suicide After Throwing Himself Out of a Speeding Taxi on Thika Road

Former Kenyan footballer Joseph Chama Asusa, known affectionately as Asuu, met a tragic end on Thika Road in Nairobi.

The 47-year-old, who had built a career both as a soccer player for Red Berrets of GSU and as a security officer in the USA, returned to Kenya to bid farewell to his late mother.

However, what was meant to be a somber reunion turned into a puzzling incident that has left friends and authorities grappling for answers.

According to police reports, the events happened on Sunday, March 17, around 1 pm, near the Mathari area.

Asusa was in a taxi en route to the city center when, inexplicably, the rear door of the vehicle swung open, leading to his fatal fall onto the road.

The taxi driver claimed that such an occurrence was unlikely, as the door should have automatically locked while the vehicle was in motion.

Tragically, Asusa’s tumble onto the road was followed by a sequence of calamitous events.

He was struck by the first car hurtling behind the taxi, which callously chose not to halt after the collision. Subsequently, a matatu, a ubiquitous form of public transport in Kenya, ran over Asusa, sealing his fate.

He was rushed to Guru Nanak Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

While the police contend that it was an unfortunate accident, Asusa’s friends harbor suspicions of a darker narrative, speculating that he may have chosen to end his own life on that bustling thoroughfare.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

The team said they are investigating both claims of suicide and accidental fall.
