Former Gor Mahia Midfielder misses Player of The Month award again

He has been nominated in each of the four months since the USL League One campaign kicked off in March

For the fourth time in a row, Kenyan midfielder Tobias Otieno missed on Tormenta’s Player of The Month for the month of June.

Since the USL League One kicked off in March, the former Gor Mahia midfielder has been nominated in each of the subsequent months but has not been feted in any of them.

In June, he was nominated alongside Chris Heckenberg, Nick Akoto, and Kazaiah Sterling with Heckenberg carrying the day.

Heckenberg earned 54.56% of the total vote, with forward Kazaiah Sterling coming in second with 26.52%. Defender Nick Akoto and midfielder Tobias Otieno followed at 13.04% and 5.86%, respectively.

Otieno’s major undoing in the quest for the award has been the fan’s vote, with the local players benefiting much from it.

In March, Mukwelle Akale clinched the award with Jackson Khoury doing so in April. In May, defender Nick Akoto beat the other nominees to be named the finest for that May.

In the current season, Otieno has played 14 out of 15 league matches that Tormnenta have taken part in.

He has scored twice, once in each of the matches against Central Valley Fuego and Lexington last week.
