The long awaited Tecno Phantom 6 Plus is finally here. It’s launching tomorrow in Kenya but I am lucky enough to have one already for review. Today, I’ll give you a brief summary of what the phone is all about then sink you deeper into its magnificence over the next few days.

Take a look at the package.

It might appear small in the picture but it’s actually close to 20 centimeters in widthh. That’s because it’s home to three other sub-packages containing a number of “goodies.” We’ll get to that but first, let’s see the specifications:

  1. Display size: 6.0 inches

2. Resolution: 1080 x 1920 px

3. GPU: Mali-T880

4. CPU: 2.0GHz deca-core (Helio X20)

5. OS: Android 6.0 (HiOS)

6. RAM: 4GB

7. Storage: 64GB

8. Camera: 21MP rear, 8MP front

9. Battery: 4050mAH

10. Sensors: Fingerprint, eye scanner, proximity, light, accelerometer

Now these are the items inside apart from the phone:

1 tempered glass (screen protector)

2 detachable charger plugs

1 charger head

1 pair of earphones

1 USB Type-C cable

1 flip cover

1 ejector pin

1 micro-USB to Type-C adapter

Documentations (warranty and user guide)

Quite a lot of useful items there that you won’t find in other phones

What’s more?

Mobile users fancy large screens nowadays an as expected, the screen of the Tecno Phantom 6 Plus is quite big at 6.0 inches. Compared with the Phantom 5, it has a better build quality and a much better design which is sleek and superb too.

Just like the Tecno Camon C9, the Phantom 6 Plus has its 8MP front camera aided by a LED flash. At the back, a 21MP camera is perfectly in place just below the antennae line. Underneath this is the dual-LED flash and fingerprint sensor.

The Phantom branding is engraved at the bottom of the screen, just so everyone knows you have a beast of a phone. The illusion of an edge-to-edge display with the screen turned off seem to give the phone an impressive screen-to-body ratio. Nonetheless, it still looks good with the screen turned on.

With the Phantom 6 Plus, Tecno has also introduced a USB Type-C port for the first time. At the bottom, two grills flank the USB type-C port on each side, giving the impression of a dual speaker  system. However, only one speaker is present, the other is just for the microphone.

There’s a hybrid SIM tray on the left side but this isn’t a problem since this device comes with a 64GB storage. At the top is the 3.5mm audio port. On the right side is the volume rocker and power button.

The device runs a dark, refined version of HiOS and the display looks. I will look at sunlight legibility and other things when we do the full review.
