FKF speaks of Harambee Stars’ next three fixtures ahead of upcoming international matches

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has disclosed that they are in talks with various football federations across the African continent to see the Harambee stars play three international friendly matches a month after FIFA lifted the suspension imposed in the country.

According to a source in the federation who spoke to a local website, the Nick Mwendwa-led federation wants the team to come back with a bang.

“The team has not played for a long time and we understand that many fans are hungry to see them play. That is why we are planning three international matches. Negotiations are on-going with several federations and in the next one week we should tie up the agreements,” the source told Mozzart sports.

The source added that Firat had agreed to return and finish what he had started with the team.

“He is a top coach and we feel that he needs a lot of time with the team before we can see his potential. In the few matches that he was in charge, he did a good job.”

Earlier, the FKF National Executive Committee (NEC) had decided to extend the tactician’s contract for continuity after he appeared to have instilled unique technical expertise into the side during his short spell with the team before the federation was disbanded.

Firat, appointed as the head coach in September last year, replacing Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee, was tasked with leading Kenya to the third round of the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualification campaign.

However, that target was not achieved as Kenya finished third in Group E behind Mali and Uganda having accrued six points from six matches.
