Firat rules out possibility of calling new players for September friendly matches

Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat has ruled out the possibility of summoning new players ahead of two international friendly matches next month.

The team is scheduled to take on Qatar and South Sudan during the September FIFA window.

The match against Qatar will be played in Doha with Stars hosting South Sudan in Nairobi.

“For the two matches, we will have mostly main players. In June we gave many new players a chance,” he said.

In June ahead of a four-nation tournament in Mauritius, Firat had called up four new players; Moses Shumah (Kakamega Homeboyz), Charles Ouma (Kenya Police), Simon Masaka (Sofapaka) and Kevin Luke Otiala (Kariobangi Sharks).

Shumah put up an impressive performance in the Four Nations tournament where he scored his maiden goal for the national team.

Firat termed the up-coming friendlies especially against Qatar as an opportunity for his players to showcase themselves.

We played Iran and now Qatar. This are all teams that featured in the 2022 World Cup and it opens chances to make new co-operations for Kenyan football as well as a chance for the players to showcase themselves at this level, “he stated.

Firat added that, he will use the two friendly matches to build up his team for the 20226 World Cup qualifiers which kick-off in November.

We will have just two months before the World Cup qualifiers kick-off and both matches are a good opportunity for me to come-up with my final team,” he revealed.

Kenya is in the same group with Ivory Coast, Burundi, Gambia, Gabon and Seychelles.

The World Cup qualifiers will be the first competitive matches for Harambee Stars who had earlier been sidelined due to a FIFA ban imposed on the country due to government interference.
