The Electric Mobility Association of Kenya (EMAK) conducted what it termed as Africa’s biggest electric vehicle parade through Nairobi CBD and its environs comprising of electric cars, e-buses, e-motorbikes, electric bicycles and tuk-tuks.
The showcase brought together various stakeholders in the e-mobility space and confirmed Kenya’s position as a leading hub in E mobility in the continent. The convoy went from the Nairobi CBD through Southern Bypass snaking through the Nairobi National Park and Lang’ata, finally culminating at Green Park.
Commenting on the event, Kenya’s Special Envoy on Climate Change, Ambassador Ali Mohamed said:
“The advancement of the e-mobility industry requires the private sector to engage and collaborate allowing organizations of all sizes and at all stages to participate in the transition to electric mobility.”
Speaking at the event, EMAK’s Chairman Hezbon Mose said:
“Today’s parade is proof of our commitment to deepen intra sector collaboration and support different stakeholders interest in making a positive impact to a low carbon transport sector across Kenya.”
This parade is a major milestone for EMAK in its mission to create awareness and social acceptance of Electric cars. This is also in line with EMAK’s aim to highlight the Africa Climate Summit happening from the 4th to the 6th of this month in Nairobi.The inaugural summit, championed by H.E. President Dr William Ruto, aims to address the increasing exposure to climate change and its associated costs, both globally and particularly in Africa. With the expectation of escalating climate crises in terms of frequency and intensity, urgent action is required to mitigate these challenges and e-mobility offers one of the solutions for this.
This parade comes in the wake of many recent initiatives and accomplishments of EMAK, including championing for the zero-rating of lithium-ion used for batteries in transport and zero-rating of imported electric motorcycle CKDS.
