Tough competition awaits Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala as he heads to the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary since World 200m champion Noah Lyles has also made his intentions clear about bagging the 100m gold medal.
Omanyala will be bidding to become the first African to medal at the World Championships but day-by-day tough opposition arises. Lyles now joins defending champion Fred Kerley and Omanyala in the fight for the gold medal.
“We got the 100m rounds and then two days off, which is nice, but then another four rounds – three in the 200 and then the last round of the 4×100 finals – so it’s going to be really busy. But I’m confident in my team that we can get it done.
I’ve qualified for the 100, and I already have gold medals in the 200 and the 4×100 from 2019, so I definitely want to add another gold medal to that,” the 26-year-old said as reported by Irish News.
So far, Omanyala has been defeated by both Kerley and Lyles twice and he will be seeking revenge when they head to Central Europe. Lyles defeated Omanyala at the USATF NYC Grand Prix in the 150m and the 100m at the Diamond League Meeting in Paris, France.
On his part, Kerley defeated Omanyala in the 100m at the Diamond League Meetings in Rabat, Morocco, and Florence, Italy.
Omanyala will have his work cut out as he looks to make his dream come true. The 27-year-old has already received backing from the masses including the legendary Michael Johnson.
The Commonwealth Games champion has also said it severally that he wants to win the gold medal and all eyes will be on him to make history.
