Doctors, nurses and medical practitioners took off after a suspected Coronavirus patient was admitted at a casualty ward at Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital.
On Wednesday, March 18, a nurse attached to the hospital informed Kenyans.co.ke that they received a notification informing them of the developments at the hospital after the drama occurred.
“There was a commotion at the facility as practitioners stated that they feared to contract the disease,” the nurse stated.
A report by K24 Digital further detailed that the health workers argued that they did not have protective gear.
“When I got to the hospital, there was a lot of panics after a patient was put in isolation for exhibiting Coronavirus-like symptoms. The nurses fled from the casualty ward because they do not have face masks and gloves.

“The patient has been left alone in the room,” Kenya National Union of Nurses official and Kakamega Branch Secretary Renson Bulunya informed journalists.
He further revealed that Red Cross personnel, who also did not have protective gear, took the patient into the isolation room within the hospital.
Speaking, Bulunya highlighted that he had forwarded the matter to KNUN headquarters in Nairobi.
“The matter is being handled by KNUN Secretary-General Seth Panyako and I believe his office will address the issue adequately,” Bulunya stated.
As the nurses grapple inadequate facilities, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, on Wednesday, March 18, stated that doctors based in Wuhan, China were collaborating with Kenyan medic to fight the coronavirus outbreak.
Kagwe, announced that the government had for the first time been able to work hand in hand with doctors from the epicenter of the deadly virus.
“Today for the first time, via a video conferencing which we have just installed today, our doctors were able to talk one on one with the Chinese doctors who have been handling the Wuhan outbreak.
“This is an extremely important step in terms of knowledge share. They gave us a tremendous amount of knowledge which we believe will go a long way in helping our people,” Kagwe stated in a press conference as Kenya’s tally of confirmed Coronavirus cases rose to seven.
On Monday, March 16, Chinese Billionaire, Jack Ma donated medical equipment to Kenya, moments after World Bank announced that the Government of Kenya would receive Ksh 6 billion in funding.
Jack Ma, a Chinese business magnate, and investor stated that all African countries would each receive 20,000 test kits, 100,000 masks, and 1,000 medical use protective suits and face shields.
