Bamburi Cement Plc scooped two prestigious awards during the 17th Sustainability, Enterprise, and Responsibility Awards (SERAS) CSR 2023 held in Lagos Nigeria on Friday. The SERAS CSR Awards, renowned for promoting excellence in corporate sustainability initiatives on the continent, saw Bamburi Cement take home the Deborah Leipziger Africa for Innovation Award and Best Company in the Use of Storytelling Award.
The ‘Deborah Leipziger Africa for Innovation Award’, which recognizes exceptional commitment to innovation, lauded Bamburi Cement’s dedication to pushing boundaries in innovating sustainable building solutions that contribute to the betterment of the construction industry.
On the other hand, Bamburi Cement earned ‘Best Company in the Use of Storytelling’ for its exceptional use of story to spearhead the sustainability, social, and responsibility agenda in the business. The award acknowledges the team’s ability to convey the organization’s sustainability aspirations through compelling narratives, fostering understanding, support, and positive perceptions among investors, media, stakeholders, and the communities they serve.
Commenting on this milestone, Bamburi Cement Managing Director Mr. Mohit Kapoor said,
“These awards come at a time when we have declared our commitment to embedding sustainability throughout our business. As evidenced in our latest sustainability report, we have embarked on decarbonisation with sustainable products and services that deliver the quality Bamburi is known for, with zero carbon emission to the environment.”
Mr. Kapoor secured the First Runner-up in the CEO of the Year 2023 category, an award that recognises a leader’s commitment to steering the company towards excellence in corporate responsibility and sustainability. In addition, Bamburi Cement Geocycle and Sustainability Director, Ms. Jane Wangari was First Runner-up in the Africa Sustainability Professional of the Year 2023 category, which amplifies her dedication and contribution towards sustainability on a continental scale.
The Company also clinched the Silver Award in the overall category of Most Responsible Business in Africa, with an impressive 75 points.

In November this year, the company released its 2022 Sustainability Report showcasing the different strategic initiatives it has been implementing to create a wholly sustainable business. The report showcases Bamburi Cement Plc’s mission to create lasting value for stakeholders while contributing to the sustainable development of communities and the environment.
