Kenya has recorded 571 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours to bring the total number of cases to 45,647.
In a statement sent to newsrooms on Tuesday, October 20, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe stated that 3,963 samples had been tested over the period bring the total number of samples tested so far to 627,781.
From the cases, 558 are Kenyans and 13 are foreigners. Out of the number, 361 are male and 210 female.
The youngest is a one-year-old infant while the oldest is 90 years.
438 patients recovered in the last 24 hours; 373 from the Home-Based Care Programme, while 65 have been discharged from various hospitals.
The total number of recoveries now stands at 32,522.
Unfortunately, 3 individuals have succumbed to the disease, bringing the number of fatalities so far to 842.
The distribution of cases by counties was detailed as follows:
Uasin Gishu 116, Nairobi 116, Mombasa 74, Kiambu 50, Laikipia 43, Kericho 41, Kisumu 23, Nakuru 21, Busia 16, Trans Nzoia 10, Kajiado 9, Nandi 8, Murang’a 5, Kilifi 5, Kirinyaga 5, West Pokot 4, Kakamega 4, Isiolo 3, Siaya 3, Elgeyo Marakwet 2, Kisii 2, Embu 2, Vihiga 2, Bungoma 2, Kwale, Nyeri, Samburu, Machakos and Turkana all with 1 case each.
In Nairobi County, the cases were recorded across the following sub-counties.
Lang’ata 25, Kasarani 11, Kibra & Makadara 8 cases each, Roysambu 7, Dagoretti North, Embakasi Central and North 6 cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi East, South & West, Ruaraka and Westlands 5 cases each, Kamukunji 4, Mathare 3, and Starehe 2 cases.
In Uasin Gishu County, the 116 cases were from the following sub-counties: Turbo 66, Ainabkoi 41, Kesses 4, Kapseret, and Soy 2 cases each and Moiben 1.
In Mombasa, the 74 cases were recorded in Mvita 53, Kisauni 8, Likoni 7, Jomvu 3, Nyali 2, and Changamwe 1. In Kiambu, the 50 cases were reported as follows: Ruiru 9, Kimbaa and Kikuyu 8 cases each, Limuru 7, Kiambu Town 6, Kabete 5, Thika 4, Githunguri 2 and Juja 1.
The recent surge has cast doubt over the reopening of schools for all students.
